Dear S.O.A.P Friends and Supporters,
The year 2020 has been difficult one for everyone – but surprisingly SOAP Harare has coped pretty well.
The recipient numbers have varied very slightly during this year – between 197 and 205. As far as I can ascertain none of our recipients have contracted the COVID 19 virus, or if they have, they have coped with it.
Although the very strict lockdown has been eased over the last month we have had to change our distribution method. As we distribute from Athol Evans (an old age home and hospital) only 3 of us are allowed on the premises. The deliverers park their cars on the outside and we wheel barrow everything to them. It certainly makes up for not being able to go to the gym! All the deliverers are issued with official letters stating that they are out performing an essential service and thank goodness none of us have been hassled by the police.
It never ceases to amaze me how kind and generous people are – especially during difficult times. Our financial position is sound and during this year we have had a local bequest and many local donations in cash and kind. That said, we are in this financial position mainly due to your generosity – so a big thank you very very much to every Australian that continues to support this important cause.
I wish you all well and hopefully the world will be in a better place soon.
Yours sincerely
Deleen du Toit
