    ANNUAL APPEAL FOR DONATIONS

    By Zimbabwe Aid Fund | Uncategorized | 0 comment | 4 August, 2020 | 0

Every year at this time we make an appeal for donations to people concerned about the pensioners in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Aid Fund has for the past 12 years raised funds for SOAP in Harare and Bulawayo who deliver monthly food parcels to pensioners in homes and in independent living. The pensioners are in desperate need of funds for food, medication, rent and the general costs of day to day living.

The SOAP organisations in Harare and Bulawayo continue to do their good work delivering monthly food parcels to 330 pensioners despite lockdowns and curfews. The main problems they face are the cost and shortage of certain items.  The Zimbabwe Aid Fund sent A$92 000 to the 2 organisations this last financial year and currently send A$10 000 per month. ZAF relies on the kindness of donors to meet SOAP’s requirements.

    The Current situation:

Due to Covid 19, hospitals have taken on an increased number of cases. Some hospitals are at capacity and in response the old age homes have gone into lockdown. In some facilities carers and cleaners have been excluded altogether and visitors restricted. Earlier in the year the Z$ was re-introduced at Z$1 = US$1, it is now at around Z$100 = US$1 which has led to massive inflation and a serious deterioration in the value of savings. The shortage of forex and the cost has meant an ongoing shortage of essential medical supplies for the pensioners.
