On March 19th-26th this year, the father and son team of Sandy and Andrew Rae embarked on tackling the worlds toughest Mountain Bike Stage race. They covered over 647KM’s of Africa’s toughest terrain and climbed a vertical ascent of 15,000m’s which is almost twice that of Everest in 8 days.
Sandy had just turned 70 years old and proved that age is just a number. He was the oldest rider in the Epic this year and the oldest rider to have ever competed. The team rode to raise funds for the elderly people of Zimbabwe. Many of these people do not have any pensions or other resources and are reliant on the parcels that they receive from SOAP in Harare and Bulawayo. The team again raised over $5000 for the pensioners which was a fantastic effort.
